Congratulations to newlyweds Lenora and John, who were married over the weekend on a moving BART train, with the bride’s bouquet fashioned from paper BART tickets, and flower garlands decking out their train car.

You may have noticed that the BART system is not having a good day today, as this morning’s electrical fire under the San Leandro station tracks means “There is currently no Blue, Green or Orange line service between Lake Merritt, Berryessa and Dublin Stations,” according to a BART announcement. So riders in those areas will be relegated to buses, and BART estimates that regular service at those stations won’t resume until at least 4-6 pm.

So who could use a whimsical BART distraction?

KQED reports that a couple just got married on moving BART train, which was all documented in an Instagram video posted Monday. We can see that the wedding court is clearly dancing to Too Short’s “Blow the Whistle” while boarding the train at MacArthur station, but BART appears to have made the very brilliant insertion of “Love Train” by the O’Jays themselves in the video above.

“Congratulations to Lenora and John on their transit-oriented nuptials,” BART says in the post. “The happy couple met on BART years ago and now they’ve tied the knot on a real-life in service train.”

And as BART points out, Lenora’s bridal bouquet was fashioned from old paper BART tickets. Apparently those things still have some use!

Meanwhile, the moving train on which their service was performed was well-festooned with floral arrangements.

The couple apparently met on BART, when evidently Lenore had taken a fall at a BART station.

“My dearest John, it all started on BART,” Lenore says during her vows. “Who knew my knight in shining armor — well, slightly used armor — would be a guy who risked his life and limb carrying my clumsy self down those stairs. I knew then and there you were either incredibly chivalrous or slightly insane.”

So mazel tov to the new newlyweds. And if you can’t get enough of these types of stories, the BART blog has a whole section on now-married couples who first met on BART, with story titles like “Couple who met on BART tie the knot with whimsical BART-themed wedding at Fairyland.”

Is there really some pent-up demand for people who want to get married at Outside Lands? They must think so, as the festival has added an on-site wedding venue, performing real weddings for $349 (plus fees).

The annual music festival Outside Lands has added some neat new features in recent years: the Grass Lands cannabis area was launched in 2019, the house music dance area SoMa stage started in 2021, and last year’s new LGBTQ+ Dolores’ stage was an enormous hit.

So the festival often adds new attractions for the onesie-clad revelers. But this year’s new addition is something of a head-scratcher (though it may prove very popular?), as Outside Lands announced Tuesday that they’re adding an on-site wedding venue called City Hall.

“A new tradition at Outside Lands? Don’t mind if ‘I do’!” the festival declared in an online announcement. “We are thrilled to announce City Hall, nestled in the Eucalyptus shade at the heart of McLaren Pass. Festival attendees can host their wedding or recommitment ceremony, throughout the weekend.”

This is not for gag weddings — these are very real weddings, and you are required to have a marriage license (you can apply for one at SF.gov) or a marriage certificate for a renewing of vows. And considering that the cost is “$349 + fees (sorry, no refunds if someone gets cold feet),” that’s going to weed out any jokers who are just doing it for kicks.

And yes, this $349 is on top of the cost of your Outside Lands admission ticket.

But for that $349, couples get a licensed officiant, a photographer, a 45-minute time slot, a wedding lounge in which to get ready, a locker for the day, and two drink tickets. There will also be dedicated seating for your guests, and you apparently get a dedicated concierge to boot.

You will need your own wedding rings, and it does not sound like cake will be provided.

This is meant as a 20th anniversary commemoration of the “Winter of Love,” when then-SF mayor Gavin Newsom first allowed same-sex weddings at City Hall. Outside Lands adds that “A donation of proceeds from City Hall ceremonies at the festival will be donated to Lambda Legal, a legal and education fund dedicated to LGBTQ+ civil rights.”

As a reminder, this year’s Outside Lands is August 9-11, with headliners Tyler, the Creator, The Killers, Grace Jones, Postal Service, and Sturgill Simpson. The full lineup is here.

One pioneering couple who can bravely afford to treat money as a fun little experiment is ready to premier their revolutionary new documentary, Life on Bitcoin, next week at the Internet Archive.

Bitcoin, for the uninitiated, is like money in that it is a convenient, mutually agreed-upon convention. However, Bitcoin differs from money in that it is not nearly as mutually agreed-upon. Fortunately, the currency makes for great tattoos.

Life On Bitcoin follows newlywed bitcoin evangelists Austin and Beccy Craig "who struggle for 100+ days to live entirely on the upstart currency." Exploiting their honeymoon for artistic fodder, "it felt like learning to swim by jumping in the deep end of the pool,” said Austin. Indeed, it looks like it's truly sink or swim for the duo. Who keeps the bitcoin in the event of divorce?

Republican politicians generally avoid San Francisco like the den of liberal iniquity it is, but the city played host to an unusual collection of Republican luminaries this weekend. The occasion? The nuptials of John McCain's son Jack, who married Vacaville native Renee Swift at a ceremony at Grace Cathedral on Saturday.

Jack is a Navy lieutenant and helicopter pilot and Renee is a captain in the US Air Force Reserve. The good-looking pair met while stationed in Guam, where the groom will be redeployed after the couple honeymoon in Africa.

The couple's rehearsal dinner took place Friday night at the Tonga Room, where failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney stole the show with this gaudy Hawaiian shirt and kukui nut necklace, and, by the looks of things, had way more fun than on the entire Presidential campaign trail.

The reception was held later on Saturday at the California Academy of Sciences, where intrepid tweeter and sister-of-the-groom drank white wine and frolicked in front of the T-Rex guarding the museum entrance.

Well, this is a nice surprise, isn't it? A Bay to Breakers runner proposed to his girlfriend during Sunday's race. According to photographer Erik Wilson, who snapped the above pic, this was a real marriage proposal.

Did she say yes? Wilson reports, "It was a marriage proposal. She said yes and off they ran, hopefully to live happily ever after. Certainly not something I would do, but whatever works, I guess."

Mark Zuckerberg and longtime med student girlfriend Priscilla Chan got major status updates today as the pair celebrated Zuck's becoming a bajillionaire and crashing the Nasdaq with a small, 100-person wedding in the backyard of his home in Palo Alto. And look, he even put on a tie!

Guests at the wedding apparently thought they were attending a house party to celebrate Chan's graduation from UCSF Medical School. (She graduated, coincidentally, on Zuckerberg's birthday on Monday.) Casual Facebook stalking of the generally secretive couple reveals that Ms. Chan used to teach elementary school science, she shares a dog named Beast with her new husband, and we have one friend in common.

Mark designed the wedding ring, which was "a very simple ruby," according to one guest who had to be authorized to speak to the AP. The two have been together for 9 years, ever since the days when a young Zuck still thought he had a future at Harvard.

No word yet on any pre-nuptial agreement, but we bet Zuckerberg will be keeping that info to himself. Wouldn't want public knowledge of legal agreement to overshadow his surely magical post-IPO wedding day, after all.

Malta and Co already seems to be suffering a bit of Yelp-retribution for its anti-marriage stance. Of course, these people and companies might object to their donations being made the subject of scrutiny -- and we can certainly understand that. It must be simply awful to have strangers involving themselves in your private life. To have people you don't even know talking about your values and personal decisions -- why, that must feel simply .

Is this conversation sort of like how the Yes On 8 campaign threatened to publish the names of donors to marriage equality? Well, yes. Yes, it is. Thanks for the idea!

An auspicious day for the Asians, especially for Chinese, and here's a pic of two newlyweds getting married on one of the luckiest days of the year. According to AP:

Jean Liu and Kevin Huang, of San Jose, Calif., pose after they were married at San Francisco City Hall, Friday, Aug. 8, 2008. They said they were married due to this lucky day, 8-8-08. The date is also revered in China where more than 16,000 Beijing couples tied the knot on China's auspicious triple-eight date, adding a dash of love to a day of national pride at the start of the Olympics.

Congratulations, Jean and Kevin! Be sure to save us a piece of cake.

Phillip and Andrew kick things off this morning with a little bit of sorcery. One-time Silicon Valley ad executive and current psychic spiritual healer and "intuitive consultant" Simone (nee Carol Simone), the lady who officiated San Francisco's Heidi and Spencer together in holy matrimony, tells M&R just what's in store for the couple's seemingly bright and highly privileged future.

Of course, she doesn't reveal much at all.

• Regarding Newsom becoming governor of the glorious state of California: "I get a very positive energy about that. It's clear this is something he would like to do and he has a very strong personality, and I feel he'll get it." That is to say, she has no idea.
• Whether San Francisco First Lady Jennifer Siebel will poop out a kid or two: Yes.
• On Newsom's chance of becoming POTUS: "It's all up to him. The work he accomplishes within himself will determine how far he goes." That is to say, dunno.
• Simone was introduced to the couple via Stanlee Gatti, a wedding planner and top-drawer friend, who got the three of them to talk about their "internal life" and other such nonsense.

Over at the Niles Banquet Hall in Fremont on Saturday night, five men were stabbed (while a sixth suffered a serious head injury) after five uninvited guests tried crashing a wedding. After being asked to leave, it seems, the creeps got brutal after one member of the clan pulled out a knife. According to the Oakland Tribune, "one victim was found lying facedown on the sidewalk and stabbed in the back several times. Another was found with blood on the inside of his leg and several stab wounds."

Yikes.

Beer and budding masculinity, of course, are being blamed for Saturday night's melee. "Anytime we have a gathering that includes young men and alcohol, it can attract problems," said Fremont Lt. Mark Devine.

The suspects managed to flee the scene before police arrived. No arrests have been made. Anyone with info on the suspects and looking to snitch can call Fremont police at 510-790-6800.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is taking another crack at marriage, this time with a blond: SFist's biggest fan, Jen Siebel. (Here's to hoping this one sticks, guys!) Few details have been released regarding their Montana-based wedding:

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is releasing details on his summer wedding. Newsom will marry actress Jennifer Siebel at her family's Bitterroot River valley ranch in Montana on July 26. The couple sent out some 250 invitations last week. Senator Dianne Feinstein hosted a wedding shower for the couple at her Pacific Heights home over the weekend.

(We always thought DiFi lived in Presidio Terrace? Alas.)

Anyway, we checked our mailbox and didn't see any engraved wedding invite waiting inside for us. Did you? Great. Send it to us.
