A man suspected of killing a Dana Point resident was arrested in San Francisco after investigators tracked the victim's car to the city, where they found a handgun and other potential evidence inside.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department said deputies were called to a home near Breakers Isle and Niguel Shores Drive in Dana Point around 10:30 am Tuesday after people checking on a friend discovered his body, according to a statement. The victim, identified only as a white man in his 70s, had been shot several days before he was found.

During the investigation, deputies used Automated License Plate Reader technology to locate the victim's vehicle in San Francisco. Orange County investigators then partnered with the San Francisco Police Department to track down the car.

When officers located the vehicle, they found 32-year-old Cordell Dionte Studley inside. Authorities said they also recovered several items potentially connecting him to the killing, including a handgun. Studley was arrested in connection with the death.

Authorities have not disclosed what relationship, if any, Studley had with the victim, or released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
