The CHP identified two suspects in connection to an alleged retaliatory shooting on the Bay Bridge last month that injured one person, including an adult who was recently arrested and a minor already in custody.

The California Highway Patrol arrested 19-year-old Olman Santiago Martinez Aguilar of San Pablo on October 8, after investigators identified him and a 15-year-old Richmond boy as suspects in the shooting, according to a press release. CHP officers served search and arrest warrants at homes in both cities around 6:15 am, recovering a firearm at Martinez Aguilar’s residence that investigators believe is connected to the case. The juvenile was already in custody on an unrelated matter.

Martinez Aguilar was booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges including attempted murder and shooting at an occupied vehicle.

“This arrest reflects our investigators’ dedication to identifying those responsible and keeping Californians safe,” said CHP Golden Gate Division Chief Steve Ramos.

As NBC Bay Area reported at the time, the shooting happened around 4:06 am on September 26 on eastbound Interstate 80, just west of the Bay Bridge toll plaza. The injured passenger reported being shot in the leg and was taking himself to a local hospital for treatment.

According to the CHP, investigators believe the shooting was retaliatory, following a physical altercation in San Francisco. The suspects allegedly pursued the victims onto the freeway before firing at their vehicle.

Following the shooting, CHP officers had shut down all eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge for about an hour, per NBC Bay Area. Authorities also conducted a search shortly after 2 pm that day, closing the eastbound lanes for approximately 30 minutes.
