Filming for an upcoming movie titled Fog City has taken over two blocks of Steiner Street this week, with a cast that reportedly features Miranda Otto, Cooper Koch, and Angus Imrie. The picture is being directed by billionaire Hyatt hotel heir Daniel Pritzker.
In her latest Waggle column for the Standard, reporter Emily Dreyfuss details the shoot, which has been ongoing all week and will last through Monday. Helming the film (which he also wrote) is Pritzker, a Marin County musician better known as heir to the Hyatt hotel fortune.
According to Dreyfuss, Fog City managed to arrive during an unusually sunny spell in San Francisco, forcing film crews to erect screens and spray down sidewalks in an attempt to block unwanted light from frame.
The Waggle also spied vintage cars on the set. At present, the shoot is taking place across a two block stretch of Steiner between Jackson and Clay. Per the film's IMDB description, it is set against the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge in the 1930s.
The plot of Fog City reportedly follows the lives and exploits of an underground abolitionist, a police inspector, and a Dust Bowl transplant, among other characters.
In comments made to Deadline earlier this summer, Pritzker expressed his excitement to make the upcoming film.
“It’s a privilege to work on a story about San Francisco, a city I love, and to bring together such a great group of actors," Priztker said. "I’m excited to work with such a talented cast and crew to tell this story.”
Pritzker's previous film, the New Orleans period piece Bolden, was released in 2019. Per SFGate, filming for Fog City has also included shoots in Melbourne, Australia.
Back in February, Daniel's brother, Thomas Pritzker, stepped down from the Hyatt board following revelations of his affiliation with disgraced sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
