A man who was shot Tuesday morning outside his home in Vallejo, while in uniform, has been identified by family and neighbors as a US postal worker.
In what family members are saying may have been a case of mistaken identity, 32-year-old Devaughn McBride was shot and killed Tuesday morning around 8:23 am outside his apartment building on Marin Street in Vallejo. As KTVU reports, McBride, who was recently made a permanent employee at the US Postal Service, was on his morning routine, heading to a corner store for a beverage and snacks, when he was shot by a suspect in a vehicle just outside the gates of the apartment property.
Vallejo police are investigating whether there is any connection between this shooting and one that occurred around 8:03 am, twenty minutes earlier, near Springs Road and Castlewood Drive, in which one person was critically injured.
A friend told KTVU that McBride, whose nickname was Buddha, was a "pretty laid back" guy. "He wasn't a loud or rambunctious person. He minded his own business. Go to work. Go home," the friend said.
McBride, who has a 12-year-old son, lived in the Marin Street apartment with his mother and brother.
His aunt, Stacey, also spoke to KTVU and said that the family believes McBride had to have mistaken for someone else in what seemed to be a targeted shooting.
"There is no criminal activity, period," she told KTVU. "This has never been his character. We are all devastated. Why? We really don't have any clue. That person took a lovely life."
McBride's killing was the ninth homicide in Vallejo this year.
Separately Tuesday morning, an unrelated crash occurred between these two events, around 8:15 am, in which a 94-year-old man, George Supica, was killed when a Ford pickup truck allegedly made an illegal U-turn and crashed into his Honda Accord, per KTVU.
