Local:

  • Two people died in a seven-car pileup in East Palo Alto on Tuesday morning. Authorities say that a minivan driven by an adult male collided with six vehicles at an intersection at Bay Road, including a SamTrans Ride Plus van. [Bay Area News Group]
  • The body of Edgielyn Torrente, the 46-year-old woman who disappeared while swimming on September 23 near the Antioch Marina, was recovered on Sunday. Authorities are warning the public that currents in the San Joaquin River, even near the shore where Torrente was swimming with a friend, can be strong and unpredictable. [KTVU]
  • If you've been wondering why the mint ice cream in It's-Its is no longer bright green, you can blame RFK Jr. [Chronicle]

National:

  • Passengers who helped subdue a co-pilot who stabbed the captain of a FlyDubai flight to Tel Aviv Wednesday and was attempting to crash the plane describe a harrowing scene. Passengers weren't sure who to trust after the one attacker was subdued, fearing a hostage situation; and apparently there were backup pilots on board who were set to fly on a different flight. [CNN / New York Times]
  • The seating arrangement at Tuesday's White House AI luncheon is a good indication of who has President Trump's ear, and the best seats went to Elon Musk and Jensen Huang. [New York Times]
  • The FTC has launched a broad investigation into both Anthropic and OpenAI seeking answers about consumer safety. [Washington Post]

Video:

  • Watch as Mayor Daniel Lurie gets hoisted up to the top of Sutro Tower in a little basket thingie, and he looks and sounds genuinely freaked out by the experience. But oh, those views!
  • Bonus video: Colorado has apparently been having a "record" bear season, and one bear popped in to the Aspen farmers' market this week to help him or herself to a bounty of pastry and bread at one stall, all while everyone nearby seems unconcerned.
