A San Mateo father of a high school girl who went to extremes to retaliate against a car full of boys who, he says, were bullying his daughter, has now been sentenced to jail time for taking shots at the boys with a gun.
The incident took place over a year ago, on May 25, 2025. A group of three boys aged 16 to 17, all students at Hillsdale High School, had been on a pranking spree, allegedly targeting the homes of multiple classmates, including the daughter of 55-year-old Steven Miceli.
Two days prior, the same boys allegedly covered Miceli's front porch on Annapolis Drive in San Mateo with some sort of oil. They then returned, in the same SUV, on May 25th, which was a Saturday, and allegedly began egging the home, at which point Miceli came outside and fired two rounds from a firearm at the vehicle, with one round striking the front passenger quarter panel of the vehicle.
Miceli then left the scene and tossed the handgun into Water Dog Lake in Belmont, several miles away.
Miceli told police at the time that he was targeting the SUV's tires. He further explained that he'd become fed up with his daughter being the victim of "constant bullying" at the school.
As KRON4 previously reported, Miceli pleaded no contest earlier this year to felony assault with a firearm and possession of an assault weapon. As KRON4 now reports, Miceli was sentenced Monday to 364 days in county jail in addition to three years of supervised probation, and he was also ordered to pay restitution in an amount not yet determined.
The case is reminiscent of a more tragic case out of Southern California, in which homeowner Anurag Chandra was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder in the killing of three teens who pulled a "ding-dong ditch" prank at his home in January 2020.
