Actor Keanu Reeves, who is also a musician whose longtime band, Dogstar, will be playing The Fillmore tonight, came to San Francisco early to catch a Warfield show on Monday from Peter Hook, the post-punk legend of Joy Division/New Order fame, and his band The Light.
No stranger to San Francisco after filming parts of the Matrix franchise here — he's apparently a fan of House of Nanking — Keanu Reeves is back in town this week, both to perform a show at the legendary Fillmore, and to catch a show from the legendary Peter Hook, the English bassist and co-founding member of highly influential post-punk band Joy Division.
Reeves actually got on stage Monday night to introduce Peter Hook & The Light at their Warfield show, as seen in the video below — recorded by the nephew of local Instagram nostalgist @thequakesanfrancisco.
"The one, the only Peter Hook and the Light!P laying the music we all love from then, today and tomorrow!” Reeves chants in his introduction, raving in a slightly doomsday preacher style and looking like he just stepped out of a cabin in the deep woods.
He adds, again in preacher style, "We are all here together, September 21, 2026!"
A commenter on the Instagram post notes that Reeves once said in an interview that if he was marooned on a desert island and could have one song with him to play, it would be Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart." And, of course, Peter Hook and his band played the classic hit at Monday's show, as the Chronicle reports.
Reeves is, notably, a bassist like Hook.
Reeves's band Dogstar, which also includes guitarist and singer Bret Domrose and drummer Robert Mailhouse, performs tonight (September 22) at The Fillmore, and despite Reeves's fame, there are still regular-price GA tickets available as of this writing.
Dogstar has been performing on and off since forming in 1994, a full 32 years ago, when Reeves was still a budding young star in Hollywood. They have put out a total of three albums in that time, with the third, All In Now, just released this year.
As Reeves explained to Jimmy Fallon, "You know, we started in a garage, and then you end up starting to write songs, and then you're like 'Let's go out and play them!', and then you're like 'Let's go on tour!', and then... you're playing."
The band reunited to give its first public performance in 20 years at Napa's BottleRock Festival in 2023, performing a couple of new songs from this new album.
