Two Brentwood Teens Killed In Crash Identified, Mother Describes Coming Upon Horrific Scene

Two high school students from Brentwood were identified as the teens killed in a crash early Sunday, and one of the teen’s mothers was among the first people at the scene after tracking her son’s location.

Dominic Anthony Starkenberg Ferrari and Caden Kyle, both 17 and seniors at Liberty High School in Brentwood, were killed around 12:10 am Sunday when the Infiniti they were riding in collided with a BMW at Deer Valley and Balfour roads, as KTVU reports. A third 17-year-old Liberty High School student in the Infiniti was injured and later released from a local hospital.

The driver of the BMW was also injured. The vehicle is reportedly registered to a 21-year-old man who was charged last month with driving on a suspended or revoked license. Police have not said who was driving the Infiniti, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

According to KTVU, shortly before the crash, Ferrari’s mother, Stephanie Starkenberg-Ferrari, became concerned after checking his location and seeing he was nowhere near home. When he failed to answer her texts and calls, she and her husband went looking for him, eventually arriving at the crash scene, where police informed her that her son had died.

Liberty High School Principal Efa Huckaby informed the school community about Kyle and Ferrari’s deaths on social media, saying the loss would be felt throughout the school.

“Our hearts are with their families, friends, classmates, teammates, and everyone affected by this tragedy,” wrote Huckaby.

“Please check in with your student, listen with compassion, and remind them that they have support at home and at school. Everyone processes grief differently,” Huckaby continued. “What matters is that our students know they do not have to face it alone.”

Additional counseling and support services were being made available to students.

ABC 7 reports that a group of senior boys visited the crash site Monday to mourn their friends. While searching around for items belonging to Ferrari or Kyle, one student found a page from an English essay that he said he planned to keep.

Fundraisers have been set up on behalf of the families of Caden Kyle and Dominic Starkenberg-Ferrari.
