  • The process of removing 97 street trees from Embarcadero Plaza and Sue Bierman Park, in preparation for the city's major renovation project that will conjoin the two into a new waterfront park, began today.   • The US Coast Guard in SF is seeking contact information for the owner of a 20-foot Moomba boat, a man named Alan Wright Wokas, after the boat was found abandoned, with the keys in it and stereo blaring, near Discovery Bay on Friday. Ominously, a cellphone was also left onboard. [NBC Bay Area]
  • Oracle laid off another swath of people, perhaps thousands of them, informing them in a corporate email early Monday that their jobs had been eliminated — and many of them never saw the email because their access to their accounts were shortly thereafter revoked. [Chronicle]

  • The Supreme Court has shut down the Trump administration's effort to limit mail-in ballots using the US Postal Service, saying the case was unlikely succeed on its merits. The unsigned order on Monday including a concurrence from Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and it must have been a 7-2 decision because Alito and Thomas dissented. [New York Times]
  • Senator Mitch McConnell, who is alive if not completely well, returned to the Senate chamber Monday in a wheelchair after being absent for over 13 weeks. [New York Times]
  • An investigation is underway into how three shipping containers fell from a container ship into the water at the Port of Los Angeles on Monday, with one still floating and the other two having sunk. [NBC LA]
