• Bruce Giudici, a candidate for the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, died over the weekend after he fell while campaigning door-to-door. Guidici, who finished first in the June primary, was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital, and it’s believed he suffered a traumatic brain injury. [Chronicle]

• A 49-year-old woman with a history of mental health issues allegedly killed Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old Bank of America executive, and injured a 68-year-old man during a knife attack in New York City’s Times Square Tuesday, before being fatally shot by police. [NBC New York]
