Oakland police arrested a stabbing suspect Monday night after an alleged spree of stabbings in four separate locations, and following a foot pursuit.

It was a scary night in East Oakland, in the area of Foothill Boulevard, 38th Avenue, and the Fruitvale BART station, after a male suspect went on a stabbing spree that left one victim dead.

The fatal stabbing was the first to occur, around 7:21 pm, in Cesar Chavez Park near 38th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, in the Saint Elizabeth neighborhood. Police responded to the park on a report of someone possibly shot, and they found a male victim instead suffering from multiple stab wounds, as OPD Chief James Beere explained in a news conference Monday night, seen below via KTVU.

That victim succumbed to his wounds and was declared dead.

While officers were responding to the first scene, other OPD officers were called to the scene of a second stabbing on the 3800 block of San Leandro Street, adjacent to the Fruitvale BART station.


From there, a third call came in from BART police, reporting a stabbing that occurred inside the BART station, which BART police were handling. This occurred just before 7:40 pm, as BART announced at 7:40 that trains were not stopping at Fruitvale due to police activity.

The suspect then reportedly exited the station and stabbed two more victims at a fourth location, on the 3900 block of International Boulevard.

"Officers arrived at that scene and community members pointed out the direction in which the suspect fled," Chief Beere explained. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to locate and confront the suspect, and they ordered him to put down the knife.

The suspect reportedly complied and was then peacefully taken into custody.

The suspect has not yet been publicly identified.

Reportedly, two of the stabbing victims were listed in critical condition, while two others were in stable condition, per KTVU.
