- Fairfield police say that they believe foul play was involved in the disappearance of 36-year-old Chantel Brooks, who was last seen in a CVS parking lot in Fairfield on July 17 after leaving work in SF. Brooks's vehicle was possibly later seen in Oakland, and police have not said what they believe happened. [KTVU]
- A new study by a geologist has come to a similar conclusion to one in SoCal, that the northern portion of the San Andreas Fault is slipping faster than previously believed. The higher the slip rate, the more frequent earthquakes are expected to occur on a fault. [Chronicle]

- Democrats in Alabama and elsewhere are trying to rally Black voter anger in the midterms over Republicans', and the Supreme Court's, efforts to destroy the Voting Rights Act. [New York Times]
- State Rep. Angie Nixon, a Democratic Socialist, pulled off a surprise win in the Democratic primary in Florida on Tuesday, and she may have done it by downplaying that label. [CNN]
