The team behind Original Joe's and Little Original Joe's, as well as Elena's in West Portal, is readying to open another family-friendly spot in the neighborhood focused just on burgers and chicken tenders.

It's called Original Joe's Cable Car, and it's going into the space at 385 West Portal Avenue, formerly Clay Oven, which is next door to the first location of Little Original Joe's. The timeline is long here, though — they're aiming for late 2027.

Sibling owners John and Elena Duggan, who live in West Portal and both raised children there, tell the Chronicle that they're hoping that Original Joe's Cable Car will be "something parents can take their kids to, and kids can drag their parents to."

The menu will be anchored by the simple, craveworthy burger that originated on the Little Original Joe's Marina menu, which consists of just a three- to four-ounce beef patty, butter lettuce, shaved white onion, American cheese, and a ketchup-based special sauce. Naturally the thin-cut fries, which at Little Original Joe's come plain or showered in parmigiano and truffle oil, will come along on this menu too.

It should be noted that the elongated burger served on a sourdough roll at the original Original Joe's in North Beach and Daly City will not be on the menu here.

But there will be chicken tenders, which at Little Original Joe's come either naked with sauces on the side, or tossed in sauce — and the sauce options are Buffalo, barbecue, garlic-parmesan, and spicy honey, along with ranch and blue cheese just for dipping.

The Duggans also promise milkshakes — along with beer and wine — and the menu will be rounded out with more kid-friendly food including sloppy joes, hot dogs, salads, and tater tots. And there will be a "funfetti" ice cream sandwich as well.

The 2,000-square-foot restaurant will only seat about 20 to 25 inside, with more seating outdoors.

When Original Joe's Cable Car debuts in 15 months or so, it will be the Duggans' seventh restaurant in their growing empire, which includes the newest Original Joe's location in Walnut Creek.
