A collision involving an Amtrak train left one man dead Tuesday morning in Oakland's Fruitvale District.

The crash happened around 6:25 am, as Bay Area News Group reports, in the area of 37th Avenue and East 9th Street, just north of the I-880 freeway.

Initial reports suggest that the driver of the vehicle was outside of the vehicle, which had stalled, and was pushing it across the tracks when the train struck both him and the vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

KTVU reported that this was Amtrak train 521, and images from the scene Tuesday morning showed the train still on the tracks a few hundred feet away from the crash scene.

It's not clear how fast the train was moving at the time of the crash. The cause of the collision and the circumstances surrounding it remain under investigation.
