A person was killed while asleep in a sleeping bag in Berkeley's Aquatic Park, and one suspect has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The incident happened in Aquatic Park around 4:32 am Wednesday. Berkeley police were called to the scene of a person pinned under a vehicle, as KRON4 reports. That person turned out to be dead, and the driver, who cooperated with police, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

As NBC Bay Area reports, a witness at the scene said that after the person in the sleeping bag became pinned, he and the car's driver attempted to push the car off the person.

The incident happened near the roundabout at the southern end of Aquatic Park, and the Berkeley Scanner reports that the victim may have been inside a tent at the time of the collision.

Berkeley police spokesperson Officer Byron White tells the Berkeley Scanner, "We know that there was a tent there. We know that there was a sleeping bag there, but we don't know if the person was inside the tent."

The victim has not yet been identified.

The driver was identified only as a 40-year-old man with no known address.

Officer White tells the Berkeley Scanner that more charges could be pending against the driver as the investigation goes on.

As the East Bay Times reports, Aquatic Park remained closed as of 8:30 am Wednesday as the investigation continues.
