An early Sunday morning hit-and-run sent two people to the hospital with critical injuries and canceled this weekend's Walnut Creek Farmers’ Market, but the suspect driver has been arrested, and the market will return as usual next Sunday.
The weekly Walnut Creek Farmers’ Market did not happen this Sunday, because as Bay City News reports, two people were critically injured in an SUV hit-and-run that occurred at its Locust Street location at about 5:15 am Sunday morning. That outlet reports that police and firefighters found both victims with “major injuries,” and as of Monday morning, both are still hospitalized and listed as in critical condition.
Though the Bay Area News Group notes that Walnut Creek police located the suspect vehicle and the driver was arrested later in the day on Sunday. That driver's name has not been released.
“Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, we will not be releasing the names of the victims or the driver at this time,” that police department said in a statement picked up by NBC Bay Area. “We will provide further updates when they are available, including what charges are expected to be filed against the driver.”
The Walnut Creek Farmers’ Market was closed Sunday due to the police investigation, and what Bay City News describes as “the collision leaving the streets in disarray.” Market organizers say the event will return as normal next Sunday at its regular Locust Street location.
