A two-alarm apartment building fire in Ashbury Heights that could be seen from many parts of San Francisco Monday night has displaced dozens of people, but luckily no one was injured in the blaze.
The fire broke out around 8:50 p.m. Monday in a four-story building on the 400 block of Upper Terrace. San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson Jonathan Baxter said that the fire appeared to have begun in a third-story apartment and spread up to the fourth floor, and two residents had to be rescued from the upper stories.

After all residents were evacuated, fire crews went in to rescue "numerous family pets" from the structure.
"San Francisco Fire Department was able to rescue two individuals and assist multiple families out of this building," Baxter said in a video posted to the Citizen app. "We're happy to say there are no injuries."

Baxter said the fire was contained as of 9:45 p.m. and firefighters were just attending to hot spots. The fire did not spread to neighboring buildings.
Due to the windy and narrow nature of the streets around Upper Terrace, the SFFD was asking the public to avoid the area for several hours after the fire.
It's not yet clear how many people have been displaced, but the Red Cross was called in to help. The SFFD later tweeted Monday that 40 to 50 residents may have lived in the building and are now displaced.
