A woman was fatally shot and a man was wounded in Saturday night shootings in East Oakland that took place within minutes of each other.

The female victim, who has not been named, has been identified as a 25-year-old San Francisco woman. She was found inside a car dead of a gunshot wound on the 8700 block of Hillside Street at 11:50 p.m. Saturday. The East Bay Times reports that she may have been in the area to attend a party.

No motive has yet been determined and no arrest has been made in the shooting.

Just eight minutes earlier, at 11:42 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot and critically wounded on the 9800 block of MacArthur Boulevard, less than a mile away from the fatal shooting. As KPIX reports, he was taken to the hospital and no further details were made available.

The shootings come amid a violent year for Oakland, after the city crossed the 100 mark for homicides earlier this month for the first time in seven years. Police say they have recovered over 900 firearms in the city in connection with crimes, and ShotSpotter activations are up 66% over last year.

Anyone with information about either of these shootings is asked to call Oakland police at (510) 238-3821, or the tip line at (510) 238-7950.
