Before the rains begin and the holidays take hold, you've got one weekend left in which to pretend that the year isn't just about over and there's nothing left to do but eat carbs and go shopping. Make the most of it.

A couple of great singers are in town on Friday, there's a Dolly Parton drag tribute, and the annual Bay Area Record Fest is happening over in Oakland. See the rest of SFist's weekend recs below.

Friday, November 22

Madison McFerrin @ Cafe du Nord
None other than Questlove has called Madison McFerrin's music "soul-cappella," and it's only natural that the daughter of Bobby McFerrin would have a uniquely awesome voice and style. Based in Brooklyn, McFerrin is now on tour with music from her new EP, You + I, alongside Chicago-based artist Tasha. And both will be doing intimate shows at Cafe du Nord Friday evening, and there are $15 tickets still available.
Cafe du Nord, 2174 Market Street at Sanchez, 8 p.m. tickets here

Brittany Howard @ The Fillmore
Alabama Shakes lead singer Brittany Howard just put out a solo album this year, and she's now touring with it along with opening act and powerhouse singer in her own right Georgia Anne Muldrow. The show is sold out, but there are $75 verified resale tickets on LiveNation's site, and probably there will be more on Craigslist. Watch Brittany sing her song "Stay High" on The Late Late Show with James Cordon last month.
The Fillmore, 1805 Geary Boulevard, 9 p.m.

Saturday, November 23

Go Ice Skating @ Union Square or Embarcadero Center
Both the Union Square and Embarcadero ice rinks are open for holiday business, and this weekend is a good time to take a spin on the ice before the holiday madness gets into high gear. The Safeway-sponsored Union Square rink sells tickets for 90-minute sessions from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and advance tickets are recommended. The Hawaiian Airlines-sponsored Embarcadero Center rink keeps those same hours on Friday and Saturday and does not sell advance tickets — but note that on Friday 11/22 there are a bunch of private rentals blocking up most of the day's sessions.

Bay Area Record Fest (B.A.R.F.) @ 7th West in West Oakland
The annual convention of Bay Area independent record labels and DJs is an inspiring reminder that the local music scene is alive and kicking. This year's fest features six live acts including Tia Nomore, Sonny & The Sunsets, and others, and a pop-up record shop featuring artists from Native Cat Recordings, Bright Antenna Records, Empty Cellar Records, and more. Admission is free but it's first-come-first-serve till the venue hits capacity.
1255 Seventh Street, Oakland; 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., free

Dolly Parton Drag Tribute @ Oasis
The tribute nights are always the best at Heklina's weekly — but soon to be only occasional! — drag show Mother. This week's is a very special tribute to the great and marvelous Dolly Parton, featuring drag numbers by Heklina herself, Loma Prietta, Mary Lou Pearl, Militia Scunt Towers, and others.
Oasis, 198 11th Street, 10 p.m. (show at 11:30), $10 advance, $15 at the door

Miguel Migs DJ Set @ Hotel VIA
The not-always accessible rooftop lounge at the Hotel VIA San Francisco, is hosting a bumping, "Salted Holiday" day party this Sunday featuring DJs Miguel Migs, Julius Papp, and Andrew Phelan doing a special birthday set. It's presented by Salted + Prismatic, and the party features a clear-cover canopy and space heaters for when the sun goes down.
Hotel VIA, 138 King Street, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., $25 tickets here
