  • A woman was killed crossing 19th Street and South Van Ness Avenue in the Mission District this week, making it the 16th pedestrian fatality this year. Pilsoo Seong, the victim, was taken to a nearby hospital shortly after first-responders were on the scene, though the internal trauma she endured was too much for Seong to bear; SF-wide initiatives like the Better Market Street project aim to curb pedestrian fatalities, all while making the city’s walkways safer.   • Paul Simon has contributed $1.1 million to various environmental nonprofits. A portion of the funds Simon made from performing at the Outside Lands festival and his two shows at Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Hawaii were donated give to the San Francisco Parks Alliance, Friends of the Urban Forest, the Auwahi Forest Restoration Project and Kuaaina Ulu Auamo.   • After embezzling $6.6 million from a North Bay auto dealership company, over the course of six years, Amir Bakhtiari was sentenced to federal prison. The 51-year-old manager of Sonnen Volkswagen and Audi Marin in San Rafael was court-ordered to pay $8.06 million in restitution to Sonnen Motorcars and the IRS, and given a 54-month sentence in federal prison.
