The fire broke out around 11 a.m. Monday, three people and a firefighter were hospitalized and are still receiving treatment.

A harrowing bit of scenery was on display in the rolling, residential hills of the the Excelsior District late Monday morning and in the early afternoon. A couple of adjacent. two-story homes at 266 and 270 Vienna Street caught fire, and three people were rescued and hospitalized. A firefighter was also injured in the blaze, according to the Chronicle.

This tweet from SFFD shows the aftermath of the physical damage to the homes, but fire department lieutenant Jonathan Baxter said that one victim had moderate injuries, and the two others had minor injuries. He added that a firefighter has also “sustained minor burns and will be okay.”

Fire in the excelsior area from sanfrancisco

Reddit user Speed009 posted this striking video just before noon.

This “awesome pup” was rescued from the blaze, according to Lt. Baxter, but two cats were killed, another cat is missing, and another dog is still not accounted for. Here’s a picture of the missing dog, should you live in the area.

The cause of the first still has not been explained, and fires can happen anytime, but this one is particularly troublesome. Officials are already worried about wildfire conditions, and KRON 4 is reporting that a Spare the Air Alert is in effect today.
