15,000 people are marked as ‘Interested’ on Facebook, with about 850 people marked as ‘Going,’ as the Ocean Beach Music + Art Festival gets ready to rock the Outer Sunset.
Our litany of San Francisco street fairs is winding into its final month, with Folsom Street Fair, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and the Castro Street Fair still on the horizon. A lesser-known but cult-hit fair called the Ocean Beach Music + Arts Festival has not yet updated its website with a 2019 lineup, but The Bay Bridged has obtained and published the official flyer for the event — which we now know is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 — to provide some way-out-west respite from the Fleet Week Blue Angels flying overhead that weekend.
Held at Noriega Street and 45th Avenue, the music acts listed for this year’s Ocean Beach Music + Arts Festival include LA GENTE SF, The Inciters, Soul Ska, Sandy's, and a handful of other live acts and DJs. BayBridged’s report mentions beer and wine tents, along with craft vendors, food trucks, and a pumpkin patch.
This free and family-friendly festival has had a few names over the years, and this appears to be its ninth iteration. Organized by the Outer Noriega Merchants Association, it has gone by the name Noriega Street Block Party (2011), Noriega Street Fair (2012), Outer Noriega Street Fair (2013) before adopting the current name Ocean Beach Music + Arts Festival in 2014.
The festival has attracted more than 15,000 ‘Interested’ responses on Facebook in just three days, so the event clearly some citywide pull. If you’re a food or craft vendor, that invite also has contact info so you can hawk your awesome things.
