Over three years after she and a boyfriend allegedly plotted to kill the father of her two children, Hillsborough-based heiress Tiffany Li is finally due to stand trial for the murder — but the start of the trial has just been delayed an extra week.
As KRON 4 reports, no reason was given for the delay, but San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Robert Foiles granted it at the request of both the prosecution and the defense.
Li stands accused alongside her boyfriend Kaveh Bayat of the April 2016 murder of her former boyfriend and baby daddy Keith Green. Green's body was found with a bullet wound to the neck on a dirt road near Hillsborough. He had last been seen arguing with Li about the custody of their children at the Pancake House in Millbrae two weeks before his body was discovered.
The man who initially seemed like he might have been the hit man in the case, MMA fighter Olivier Adella, has since cooperated with police and told a story in which Li and Bayat showed up at his door with Green's dead body in the passenger seat of a car, asking him to take out "the trash." Bayat then drove the body to Sonoma County and dumped it there.
Famously, in April 2017, Li's family bailed her out of jail to the tune of $66 million in real estate assets — her bail was set at $35 million and in California that can be met with twice the amount in real estate. Since her initial arrest she has been on house arrest with an ankle monitor, and she has surrendered her passport.
It came out that Li is the heir to a Chinese construction fortune, and she grew up largely in the Bay Area, attending the tony Santa Catalina boarding school in Monterey. Li's mother, a naturalized US citizen like Li, put up the bail money.
At the time of his death, Green was living in an apartment in Millbrae with a roommate. He had met Li when she was 23 and he was 21, and he died at the age of 27. He had previously attended the Cordon Bleu cooking school in San Francisco, paid for by Li's mother. He had recently been kicked out of the Hillsborough mansion, where he had lived with Li before their breakup.
Bayat has remained in jail on $35 million bail for two years. As KRON 4 notes today, the trial of Li and Bayat was previously delayed by a year after Li was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2018.
