It happens every year that people publicly do things that are in violation of Burning Man's basic rules around commercial promotion. And this year, it was DJ/producer Diplo who proudly enabled Popeyes to advertise their new chicken sandwich from the playa.
Diplo, a.k.a. Thomas Wesley, won Broke-Ass Stuart's Burning Man Douchebag of the Year prize with the following Insta post, which went up on Sunday. He claims, "Popeye’s heard I wanted to try their sandwich so they sent me some in a jet."
He added, "Wendy’s your move."
The promotional move by Popeye's appears to be a thank-you stunt after Diplo posted a video of himself in his VMAs cowboy outfit going out for Popeye's in Newark, New Jersey after attending the show last week.
I might have lost the @vmas but we got the last chicken sandwich in Newark @PopeyesChicken pic.twitter.com/zHUdLh6d84

Over 223,000 people liked the post, but most hard-core Burners will not, for the same reason that Instagram influencers aren't supposed to be shooting sponsored posts at the fest.
Anyway, everything is terrible, even if the sandwich may be good.
