A 16-year-old suspect has been apprehended in a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday night outside the West Oakland BART station.
As we noted here this morning, the shooting happened at 10:30 p.m. Thursday and the station was briefly closed down as a result, though it's unclear whether the victim, a 17-year-old girl, was riding on BART prior to the shooting or not.
The incident occurred on the 7th Street side of the station.
As the Examiner reports, Oakland Police officers along with BART Police apprehended a 16-year-old male suspect outside his home after witnesses were able to identify him.
BART Police Chief Carlos Rojas issued a statement saying, "Our robust surveillance network captured the incident and will play a critical role in the prosecution."
No further details are yet known about the 17-year-old victim, but SFist will update this story as those become available.
