Two men are facing possible charges of attempted murder and robbery following a pair of robberies early Sunday morning near Fisherman's Wharf that ended with a shootout.
The shooting on Bay Street between Mason and Taylor happened around 2:06 a.m., and it left one 26-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the leg, and one of the suspects with life-threatening injuries.
As the Examiner reports, 21-year-old Jorge Islas-Garcia, and 20-year-old Shane O’Roark are both suspected of robbing a group of three men. When Islas-Garcia and O'Roark then attempted to rob a second group nearby a short time later, members of the first group intervened and tried to warn them. This was when Islas-Garcia shot his gun and injured the woman. One of the first three robbery victims apparently had or got his hands on a gun and then shot Islas-Garcia.
Islas-Garcia and O'Roark remain under arrest, and they have not yet entered pleas. Islas-Garcia remains hospitalized and was unable to appear in court, according to the Public Defender's Office.
The shooting Sunday morning followed only six hours after a separate shooting in the Fillmore District that left one man dead and five others wounded. And it occurred less than a week after a homeless man was fatally stabbed in broad daylight under the iconic Fisherman's Wharf sign.
