After an altercation allegedly stemming from catcalling in San Francisco’s SoMa district, a young man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries on Thursday after a woman stabbed him with a knife, according the San Francisco Chronicle.
An SF police spokesperson tells the Chron that the 17-year-old man and a number of his friends were on Seventh Street between Mission and Market when they began making lewd comments to an 18-year-old girl and her companion on the street. An argument ensued, in which one of the stabbing victim’s friends was said to have thrown a plastic bottle.
The 18-year-old girl retaliated by brandishing a knife and stabbing the young man in the torso. Police arrived on the scene at 5:42pm Thursday and apprehended the woman. First responders took the man to the hospital with critical injuries.
Hoodline reported that the woman was with multiple friends at the time of the incident.
No additional details have been reported, but the incident has sparked some debate on social media, including a particularly combative thread on Reddit that has since been locked.
