Here's the rest of what was going on today:
∙ Billionaire Elon Musk is (sort of?) just like the rest of us when it comes to needing a mortgage to buy a home. In order to maintain liquidity in his reported $23.4 billion fortune, Musk has recently taken out five "monster" mortgages on five separate homes through Morgan Stanley, one in the tony Peninsula town of Hillsborough, and four in Bel Air. ∙ One person was rescued but another person remains missing after a landslide Friday afternoon at Fort Funston. The missing person was apparently trapped beneath the dirt. [Examiner/Bay City News]
∙ The UC Berkeley campus was at the center of a new viral video this week involving a conservative organization's recruiter who got punched in Sproul Plaza. UC Berkeley police say they've identified a suspect in the assault, in which the victim worked for right-wing campus activist organization Turning Point USA. [Berkeleyside]
∙ A portion of Stockton Street reopened to vehicle traffic Thursday for the first time since the beginning of construction on the Central Subway seven years ago. Bus lines like the 8-Bayshore and 91-Third Street/19th Avenue are rerouting onto the stretch of Stockton between Geary and Ellis starting Monday, with the 30-Stockton and 45-Union to follow later. ∙ You know how Instagram kinda sorta copied Snapchat with Stories? Well it's happening again, only now with Pinterest. A tech sleuth has spotted some code in the Instagram app that suggests the platform is going to add a collaborative public Collections feature that will basically be just like Pinterest — and just as Pinterest is about to IPO. [TechCrunch]
∙ The Hotsy Totsy Club in Albany is celebrating its 80th birthday this weekend, but the place is likely a bit older than that. The owners settled on an opening date of 1939 because that was just the first time it appeared in print because it was robbed. [Berkeleyside]
∙ Some Oakland restaurants are showing their support for striking teachers by offering discounted meals, free drinks, and more. [Eater SF]
∙ Mother Jones has a nice photo post documenting Day One of the Oakland teachers strike.
∙ One person was injured and five dogs were killed in an RV fire this morning in San Jose. [BCN]
