The scope of the wildfire disaster in Northern California continues to widen Wednesday, and as they did with recent hurricane-related natural disasters, Google and Facebook have each pledged aid to help victims.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted the message below Tuesday saying "I'm thinking of everyone affected by the wildfires," and saying that Facebook was donating $1 million to "local organizations to help rebuild."

Similarly, as SFGate reports, Google pledged $500,000 in aid through Google.org, in addition to any donations made through their charitable arm by Google employees.

Vice President Mike Pence said on Tuesday, per NBC Bay Area, that a federal emergency had been declared as a result of the fires and that this would "allow FEMA to identifiy, mobilize and provide additional equipment and resources to assist with the emergency."

Fox News reports that Pence also spoke to Governor Jerry Brown Tuesday, and Pence said at an event outside a manufacturing plant in Sacramento, "I can assure you, as I did the governor, the federal government stands ready to provide any and all assistance to the state of California as your courageous firefighters and first responders confront this widening challenge."

President Trump also reportedly called Governor Brown Tuesday, and the Associated Press reports Trump saying he called to "let him know that the federal government will stand with the people of California. And we will be there for you in this time of terrible tragedy and need."

So far, 17 people have been confirmed dead in the fires, of which there are now upwards of 17 burning in different Northern California locales, having scorched over 115,000 acres so far. The economic toll and number of structures destroyed won't be known for days or weeks, and containment of the major fires in wine country, also, likely will not occur for weeks. As of this morning, the Tubbs Fire is 0% contained, the Nuns Fire to the east is 2% contained, the Redwood/Potter Fires in Mendocino are 5% contained, and the Atlas Fire in Napa is 3% contained.
