A woman was arrested Saturday at BART's MacArthur station, after witnesses say she was physically abusing her two young children as she stood on the platform.

Bay City News reports that 28-year-old Oakland resident Cherrelle McMillion was arrested a little after 1:08 p.m. Saturday, after a patron alerted the MacArthur station agent that "a woman who appeared to be intoxicated was abusing her two small children, a 9-year-old girl and a 22-month-old toddler."

Police arrived at the station shortly thereafter, and found McMillion on the platform, kids by her side.

BART police say she was seen shoving the toddler, and backhanded, punched, and slapped the 9-year-old girl, "causing redness to her head and neck."

Officials called McMillion's family members, who rushed to the scene to take custody of the kids after the youngsters were cleared by medical crews. Child Protective Services will also be investigating, BCN reports.

McMillion has been booked into Santa Rita Jail, BART police say, and is expected to face charges of public intoxication and corporal injury to a child.
