A 29-year-old man was apparently walking near the intersection of Mission Street and 25th Street early Thursday morning when an assailant stabbed him in the back, causing critical injuries. The Chronicle reports that the incident occurred at 3:15 a.m. this morning, but there is little other further information.

Police report that the victim sat down on the sidewalk and waited for EMTs to arrive. It's unclear whether or not he knew the suspect, and the suspect immediately fled the scene after the stabbing. Hoodline reports that the suspect is believed to be in his early 20s, but no other description has been given by police.

The victim was transported to SF General with life-threatening injuries.
