An employee of San Francisco's Boys and Girls Club was arrested last week, after police say that he had been uploading "graphic" pornography involving children to the internet.
According to the San Francisco Department, the investigation began in April, when they learned that "an individual...was uploading and downloading graphic child pornography online."
As the investigation proceeded, police say that members of SFPD's Internet Crimes Against Children unit identified "the source of the child pornography as originating from an apartment on the 400 block of Natoma Street," which is between Fifth and Sixth Streets in SoMa.
On Thursday, May 18, police served a search warrant at the address in question. During the search, the SFPD says that "Investigators located numerous child pornography files on various media devices that were determined to belong to" the apartment's resident, 45-year-old Brian Pittman.
Pittman was arrested at the scene, police say, and has been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.
According to the SFPD, Pittman is a maintenance worker for the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco as a maintenance worker. Police say that after Pittman's arrest, "executives for the Boys and Girls Club were notified and have been fully cooperating with investigators."
In news that will be a relief to many, the SFPD says that "our preliminary investigation has determined that Pittman had no direct involvement with children's programs at the Boys and Girls Club, is not a counselor, was not directly involved with children at the Club, and there does not appear to be any crimes involving the Boys and Girls Club."
That said, police are seeing anyone who might have had "suspicious contact" with Pittman. Anyone who has any information on the case is urged to call SFPD's Special Victims Unit at 415-558-5500.
