A California legislator introduced a resolution Wednesday, obviously symbolic, calling on Congress to begin impeachment proceedings for President Donald Trump. Assemblyman Evan Low (D-Campbell), and as CBS 5 reports, it actually calls on Trump to resign, and then calls on Congress to impeach him if he refuses.

Low tells CBS 5, "When taking a look at this issue and focusing on precedent there is there’s historical context to this. We cannot wait any longer for an additional shoe to drop so we need to take affirmative action."

Low's measure follows on similar symbolic resolutions already passed by the cities of Berkeley, Richmond, and Alameda. Those resolutions were all sent to House Rep. Barbara Lee in March, and as Alameda Vice Mayor Malia Vella told CBS 5 at the time, "We want to make sure we are on the right side of history."

The city council of Los Angeles has passed a similar resolution, as has the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
