An investigation into a shooting that snarled rush hour traffic and sent a man to a hospital has become a homicide query, after the victim died of his injuries.

San Francisco Police Department Captain Raj Vaswani, who heads up the city's Bayview Station, advised citizens to avoid the area Friday evening, saying that Muni had been rerouted to facilitate the investigation.

According to the Chron, gunfire was reported at the area of Quint Street and Silver Avenue at 5:59 p.m. Friday.

When officers arrived, they discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died, the Chron reports.

The Ex identifies the victim as 23-year-old Oakland resident Eduardo Tay, and says his death marks SF's 20th homicide for the year. According to the Chron, no arrests have been made in the case.

This is the city's first homicide since the slaying of 15-year-old Reajohn Jackson as he drove near Sunset Boulevard and Kirkham Street last Monday. As of this morning, police have not announced any new developments in that case, nor have any arrests been made.
