The intervention of a witness saved a woman from a worrisome fate Saturday, when her kidnapping from a Pacific Heights street was thwarted.

Police say that the attempted kidnapping occurred at 8:50 p.m. Saturday, on the 2800 block of Steiner Street, which is between Green and Vallejo Streets.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, the 31-year-old female victim was walking on the sidewalk when the suspect, a man in his 30s, "parked his vehicle, exited, and grabbed" her.

Police say that "a witness saw the incident and tried to intervene," which caused the suspect to jump back into his car and flee south on Steiner.

The SFPD says that they were able to identify the suspect, and arrested him shortly thereafter. As of publication time, his name had not been released, nor did police share details on any motive behind the abduction attempt.
