A man walking on a Haight-area block was the victim of a random attack Wednesday afternoon, when a stranger attacked him with a knife as he walked down Stanyan Street.
Police say that the stabbing occurred at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, on the 700 block of Stanyan, which is between Waller and Haight Streets.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, whose Park Station is just steps from the site of the attack, the 35-year-old victim was walking on Stanyan when the suspect, a man who appeared to be in his mid-20s, came up from behind the victim and stabbed him.
The attack was not provoked, the SFPD emphasizes, and the suspect "is not known to" the victim.
The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, for treatment of injuries police say are not life-threatening. The suspect fled on foot, police say, and remains at large as of publication time.
