A suspicious item found at Civic Center Station this morning shut down both BART and Muni Metro service through the station, creating massive system-wide delays for both. As KRON 4 reports, the item was discovered at around 9:30 a.m. and it has not been described in any way.

An alert went out at 9:52 a.m. from the SFPD to avoid the area of Civic Center Station due to police activity. According to a tipster, Market Street and UN Plaza were also cleared, and there was heavy police and FBI presence.

BART trains were reportedly either holding where they were or turning back before entering the station, and Muni temporarily set up a bus bridge as Muni Metro service was also not passing through the station.

Update: The situation has cleared as of 10:30 a.m. and Civic Center Station has reopened, but expect residual delays.

ABC 7 reports that there had been a bomb threat against the station.
