We'll likely be collecting stories of the impacts of last night's rainstorm well into tomorrow, but KTVU brings us coverage from San Rafael where a mudslide has thoroughly destroyed one family's home.

This happened on the 300 block of Mountain View Avenue and homeowner John Futschur tells the station that he heard cracking in the house and saw a deer trapped in their backyard around 7 a.m. this morning before he had to drive his daughter to school. When he returned, he had mud streaming into his kitchen, he says, and he had to run out of the house. He also says that representatives from the city quickly arrived and told him to evacuate as well and they've red-tagged the house.

Below is the raw footage from KTVU's Facebook page shot prior to the broadcast.

Reporter Tom Vacar discusses the fact that landslides like this often are not covered by insurance and are not included under flood insurance policies. It's unclear Futschur's home is specifically insured for such an "act of God" or not.

Striking a positive note he tells KTVU, "Last year I had colon cancer and now I'm healthy. We'll beat this too."

According to KQED, San Rafael was said to have received over two inches of rain overnight as of 8 a.m., while nearby Mount Tam received over four inches.
