A man who was taking pictures at a popular San Francisco tourist destination was injured Thursday evening, when a duo of muggers who'd just robbed him ran him over as he tried to keep them from fleeing.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, the male victim was taking pictures on Twin Peaks at 6:50 p.m. Thursday when a male suspect in his 20s approached the victim and stole his camera.

Police say that the victim chased the suspect as the latter fled into a waiting car driven by a second, undescribed suspect.

In a last-ditch effort to stop the thieves, the victim "ran in front of the car," police say. But that gesture was wasted, as the driver kept on going, running the robbery victim over before speeding from the scene.

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of abrasions and pain from the collision. His injuries are not life-threatening, police say.

As followers of San Francisco crime likely know, Twin Peaks is the scene of numerous crimes, especially ones targeting tourists who might be unaware of the perils that lurk on the streets of SF. Following a double homicide that took place at the destination in February of 2015 District Eight Supervisor Scott Wiener cited police staffing issues as part of the crime wave in the area.

As for Thursday's case, the suspects remain at large, according to the SFPD. As of Friday morning, no arrests have been made.
