  • A 27-year-old inmate escaped the custody of out-of-state authorities who were transporting from jail in Alameda County Tuesday morning, for extradition to Kentucky. His name is Shawn New, and he escaped a vehicle at about 9:45 a.m. at Interstate 880 near A Street in Hayward. He's apparently wanted for a probation violation involving credit card fraud.   • A woman claiming to have an explosive device briefly shut down the Tower Bridge and part of the Capitol Mall in Sacramento today, but she's now in custody. [CBS 5]
  • A badly injured, 58-year-old San Francisco woman was rescued from an apparent kidnapping this morning in Sonoma County when her 54-year-old kidnapper, possibly drunk, drove his vehicle off the 101 highway. [CBS 5]
  • A new plan to preserve the Mission’s diversity and cultural richness, a collaborative effort by multiple nonprofit groups and the city, dubbed the Mission Action Plan 2020, is now available for public comment. Its recommendations, which will need to be funded, include improving tenant protections, preserving single room occupancy rooms, preserving affordable housing, and building new affordable housing.   • A fresh battle is underway stalling the handoff of SF-Tiburon ferry service between the Blue & Gold Fleet and Golden Gate Ferry, because they got an 11th hour legal challenge from the family-run Angel Island-Tiburon Ferry, which thinks Golden Gate Ferry's boats are too big and the dock needs realigning.
