San Francisco-based woodworker and artist Katie Gong, of Katie Gong Design, is the subject of Episode 7 of People Magazine's new American Doers series, hosted by very handsome Brit James Marshall. Gong grew up running around her dad's woodshop, and she says, "My whole family — my grandfather, my father — we all worked in wood."

And even though many might think of woodworking as a man's profession, she says, "When I was growing up, I never thought about masculine or feminine job roles."

As you can see, too, she can handle power tools with a whole lot more skill and ease than host James Marshall.

Gong explains that she and her boyfriend recently signed a ten-year lease on a 4,000-square-foot studio space in San Francisco and they hope to be able to sub-lease space to other local makers and help them stay in this ever-more-expensive city.
