Facebook may now profess to combat fake news, but that didn't keep the company from hosting a Trump inauguration soirée in DC along with the Daily Caller, a far-right news website whose frequent misinformation and lies keep fact-checking website Snopes rather busy.

I know! Who cares about being in cahoots with a publication that celebrated Obama commuting the sentence of Chelsea Manning this week with the headline "Genetic Male Bradley Manning Pulls Off The Klinger Gambit," right? Not me!

Responding to a request for comment from Gizmodo, a spokesperson from Facebook explained: “there was a Facebook Live setup at the party at which a number of notable attendees went Live to describe the goings-on...“We hope our platform will give people across the world the opportunity to document and experience this historic event from backstage to center stage, even if they can’t be there in person.” Very inclusive.

The Daily Caller wrote up its "Welcome to Washington Party with Facebook" right here. Not to be left out of the action, oil company BP was also a host. It was, according to the publication, "A veritable who’s who of beltway bigwigs" at the Hay-Adams Hotel in DC, all talking Trump.

Politico had the rundown of the attendees, which included plenty of legit baddies like Tucker Carlson, Scooter Libby, and "Martin Shkreli holding court." SFist most recently covered Shkreli, the infamous Trump loving "pharma-bro," when he was pelted with feces at a UC Davis event where he'd joined the bill with similarly rancid provocateur and Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos.

Awkwardly, Taylor Lorenz, a writer for The Hill who has been the target of some of Shkreli's typical online harassment, was at the DC event, too.

To Gizmodo, Lorenz says Shkreli was “just creepily standing there by the Facebook Live set,” and was “not being interviewed... no one was engaging with him."

He was reportedly "not invited" but just showed up anyway, and similarly, I'm not going to invite Shkreli to go fuck himself, but I hope he'll just go ahead and do it.
