A dog thief remains on the loose Thursday, the day after he stole a pup from its guardian in a South of Market alley.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, a 46-year-old man was walking his dog on the sidewalk the 600 block of Minna Street, which is between Seventh and Eighth Streets, at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday.

Suddenly, a man in his 30s approached. He took "dog off the leash and [ran] away with it," police say.

The dognapper was "last seen fleeing on foot" with the dog, police say. He remains at large as of Thursday morning, as does his canine victim. Additional details, such as the dog's description, were not available as of publication time.
