Casting for the first national tour of Broadway smash hit Hamilton, which officially kicks off here in SF in March, was just announced, and among the principal cast members are performers who are either currently in the Broadway cast, or currently in the Chicago company — which is technically not the first stop in the national tour, but its own separate thing. Also among them and proving that this national tour has some more caché than the average national tour, are a couple of Tony Award nominees.

Most notably, Michael Luwoye will play the title role of Alexander Hamilton, as the Chronicle reports, and Luwoye is currently the alternate/understudy for Broadway's current Hamilton, Javier Muñoz — who took over the role from show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda when he stepped away from it last summer. Playing Aaron Burr will be the Aaron Burr from the Chicago cast, Joshua Henry. And Broadway's current King George, Rory O’Malley, will join the national tour in that comedic role — originated on Broadway by Looking's Jonathan Groff.

As Broadway.com notes, Luwoye made his Broadway debut in Hamilton last year, and both Henry and O'Malley have Tony nominations under their belt — Henry twice, for Violet and The Scottboro Boys, and O'Malley for originating the role of Elder McKinley in The Book of Mormon. Also, Henry made his Broadway debut in Miranda's first big Broadway hit, In the Heights, and recently originated the role of Noble Sissle in Shuffle Along. You can see both O'Malley and Luwoye in their roles in the video below. (Sidebar: The role of King George is about to be taken over by Saturday Night Live alum Taran Killam as O'Malley departs on the tour.)

In the role of Angelica Schuyler is Emmy Raver-Lampman, who was an ensemble member in the original Broadway cast and an understudy for all three Schuyler sisters, and she's repeated that in the Chicago cast well.

Other principals announced include Solea Pfeiffer as Eliza Hamilton, Jordan Donica as Marquis De Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Isaiah Johnson as George Washington, Mathenee Treco as James Madison, Rubén J. Carbajal as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, and Amber Iman as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds.

If you were frustrated by that online Hamilton ticket queue, tickets are surely going to be selling for months on the secondary market. There are tickets available on StubHub right now for nearly every performance, selling for between $1000 and $2500.
