A man was knocked out Tuesday during a brazen mid-afternoon mugging on a busy Mission District block.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the 39-year-old victim was walking on the 2000 block of Mission Street, which is between 16th and 17th Street, at 4:36 p.m. Tuesday when a male suspect "approached from behind and tried to grab [the victim's] backpack."
The victim resisted, and the two "struggled for the backpack," police say.
Eventually, the suspect punched the victim in the face, causing him to lose consciousness. The mugger then fled on foot in an unknown direction, backpack in hand.
The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which police say are not life-threatening. The mugger remains at large, police say. As of publication time, they had no additional details on the suspect, but confirm that no arrests have been made in this case.
