A SoMa pedestrian was left fighting for his life Thursday, the victim of a driver who struck him then sped away.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, the 56-year-old male victim was crossing the street at the intersection of Fifth and Bluxome Streets at 11:17 Thursday night when the incident occurred.

Police say that the driver, who police describe only as male, struck the man as he crossed the street, then "fled northbound on Fifth Street."

The victim was left with life-threatening injuries, police say, and was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital. An update on his condition was not available as of publication time.

The driver remains at large, police say, and no arrests have been made in this collision.
