An innocent bystander was injured in the Mission Monday afternoon, caught in the crossfire during a shootout between two suspects.
It was 4:45 p.m., police say, when two suspects began shooting at each other on the 3000 block of Harrison Street, which is between 26th and Cesar Chavez Streets.
A 37-year-old man who was walking in the area was struck in the confrontation, police say. One of the suspects participating in the gun battle, a 32-year-old man, was also injured by gunfire. Mission Local reports that witnesses heard as many as eight shots during the incident.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, both men were transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of their wounds, which police say are not life-threatening.
The injured suspect has been placed under arrest, police say. Following the scrum, investigators say they also discovered a vehicle driven by the second suspect, as well as a gun that they believe was used in the altercation. As of Tuesday morning, police did not have any additional information on the second suspect, who appears to remain at large.
