A pedestrian who was either on a sidewalk, a median, or in the street outside a crosswalk was struck and killed by an eastbound vehicle on Market Street near Church Saturday evening around 7:45 p.m. The collision and subsequent investigation caused a backup of F-Market streetcars until well past 10 p.m. as well as slowing other eastbound traffic, as Hoodline notes.
They have it from the SFPD that the pedestrian was walking outside a crosswalk when he or she was struck, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision happened just east of Church Street near where 14th Street crosses Market.
Shortly after the incident, KRON 4 reported that the pedestrian had been on the sidewalk at the time of the collision.
A Hoodline tipster also noted a tarp over what might have been the victim's body on the median between Church and 14th Streets.
We'll update as we learn more about the victim, and the investigation.
