Bay Area residents should expect cooler temperatures and a wet end to the week, meteorologists said Monday, with more rain predicted to fall this coming weekend than we've seen in the last seven months.
If the recent wave of warm weather had lulled you into leaving the house without a jacket, stop being so silly, the National Weather Service said Monday. OK, I'm paraphrasing: What they actually said is that temperatures will decrease sharply this week, with temperatures today dropping down to a high of 65 for SF.
The rain is expected to come as soon as Thursday night, and will continue throughout the weekend, the NWS says. And it will be a lot of rain, compared to what we've seen in recent months, with the Chron reporting that meteorologists say that "total rainfall will be in the range of one to three inches in the North Bay, more than an inch in San Francisco and a little less in the South Bay." SF's last inch-plus rainfall was on March 12, making the predicted showers the first big one since then.
According to Golden Gate Weather Services forecaster Jan Null, “This is sort of what we expect in the second week in October."
"Each storm gets progressively stronger and wetter," Null says, but in this case “The rainfall amounts are not going to be monumental or momentous."
"We also expect this time of year to see this roller coaster between very hot and cool temperatures,” Null says, so, yeah, don't get caught on that roller coaster without a sweatshirt in your bag, friend.
